This afternoon shaped up pretty well: I enjoyed a first sampling of a apricot ginger Devon scone with Devon cream and strawberry preserves with strawberry sencha green tea. Do not be deceived, for though the theme appears to be strawberry (not a bad one), it is but a craving.
And then, dumpling making at the Robbins', which was not originally on the agenda but was loads of fun :) Dumplings of all shapes and stuffed to within an inch of their "pleated dumpling skirts" with 3 pounds of meat were pan-fried and boiled to delicious goodness. Mmm. I like the dumpling skins.
I sometimes have trouble to find the correct words...in English, yes, I know. For example, the word for money I can only think of in Arabic if I see someone rubbing their fingers together in that typical gesture for money. But today, I was all too amused at my inability to find my words, yet again.
My dear Louisa happened to fling water (used to seal the dumpling) at my sweater by accident, and in jest of a possible water flinging contest with Grace, and I exclaimed: "PEDESTRIAN!!!!" After that, both Louisa and Grace looked up in utter confusion at me, and once I realized I said something bizarre (after a little while) I tried desperately to recall the word I intended to say.
It was "bystander" as in "innocent bystander." Haha...oh words!
On that matter...last Friday, I was on my way home in the car with four other people and as the driver was deciding what the name of the street that we needed to turn on was, he mentioned: "Is it Centre or Parker?" After which I burst out with: "IT'S PARKER! I GOT IT! THEIR LAST NAME IS PARKER!"
This exuberant declaration was followed by a confused silence and then bursts of laughter by all. I explained that I had been trying to remember the last name of a family I knew for the past few weeks and coincidentally, the street name was their last name. Anyway, my memory is apparently not serving me very well for certain things these days! What if when I get to be 80 years old it takes me 2 years to remember one particular thing? (that's what my fellow passengers joke about...) Oh, Grandma Sanae - the little old lady she will be!
:)
